Mom, Dad, I Don’t Want to Come Home!

What is going on with my 15 month old? She doesn’t like to come home. LOL! Whenever we go out, or when Greg picks her up from daycare, it’s a scene when we get home. She cries, screams, throws a fit, claps (yes, she claps when she is furious…like WTF???) and then sits on the floor bump her head on the floor backwards. not caring where her head lands. Every single day she does this. Is this normal?

I mean, I know when I was in boarding school, I didn’t want to go home, but I was a bit older. I was like Sidney’s age. I was having fun. (Ok…I lied. I just got off the phone with my Mother. She said I didn’t like to go home either when I was younger than Sidney.) I was such a playful kid that the idea of going home used to make me sick. Fine. But I still don’t get it with my little Zurhi.

Seriously, she does not even like to take off her sweater, jacket or shoes. So Greg does his magic and calms her down when we get home. He says, “Zurhi, it’s OK! Calm down sweetie, calm down.” He kneels down until they are about the same height and talks to her.

It works. Everything is cool.

God forbid you try to take off her sweater (which is also known as jacket in Los Angeles.) It starts all over. The crying and tantrums! Let’s just say for a minute that we succeeded in taking off her jacket - don’t you dare touch the shoes or layers of clothing she has on. I feel like she thinks keeping all these things on means there is still a chance of her going out? I don’t get it. It stays this way until bed time.

Sometimes, she even goes to bed with her boots or crocs on. She goes to bed with all the layers of clothing and we can’t get them off until she is fast, fast, asleep.

Well, my little man Sidney is the entire opposite. Not in terms of going out, but in term of clothing. Sidney loves, loves the outdoors, too of course. My God! Can’t get him to come back home. However, he CANNOT stand layers of clothing.

We send him to school everyday (when it’s cold in LA) with at least two shirts on and a sweater. By the time we pick him up from school, he’s practically naked and it’s freezing outside. Every single day, we have a talk with Sidney about keeping his clothes on.

I wake up in the middle of the night to check up on him in his room and I need a jacket, scarf, hat and gloves to go in there. His windows are wide open, the fan is on, and he has stripped down to his boxers with no cover on. Sometimes, he’s sleeping on the floor because he claims his bed is too hot! He has cups and cups of water in his room. What is going on?

I spoke to his Doctor about this and he said well, we are HAPPY Sidney loves to drink water, there’s nothing wrong with him, but he needs to keep his clothes on, especially if/when it’s cold. Our little man Sidney is an athlete, though. He plays soccer, football, basketball, baseball, catch (if it’s a sport) and plays them well. He is pretty DARN good. When he is not in class, he is playing one sport or the other, so may be that’s why? Is he just getting his internal engine revved up too high? Well, it’s always up for discussion.
