Explaining Easter To Kids

I just love the way their minds work. Kids, that is. Especially mine. They are so creative, direct, real, dramatic, funny…I could go on.

Yesterday, we sat around with the kiddies talking about Easter and the importance. Here’s G trying to explain in a nutshell, and as simply as possible.

G turned to S (our son), “by the way, do you understand/know the story of Easter?”

S: Sorta. Uhm, I don’t know. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it.

Me: Thinking to myself. Wow, so he has not being paying attention at Sunday school?!?!?!

G: OK! Let me explain. So, you know that Jesus was killed on the cross, right?

S: Yes! That’s really sad.

G: Well, so when they brought him down, they put him in a tomb and covered it with a huge rock. But a few days later, he rose from the dead and shocked the world…..(the story went on a few more sentences).

S’s eyes lit, his face, super expressive. In total shock..as if hearing the story for the first time. It could be the first time he actually paid attention and understood the story..

S: WOW! That means Jesus is totally like…immortal, right?

Me: uhhh, like…sure, dude. Rock on! Lol

Happy Easter, Folks! Stay blessed.

  1. Lol, FKH, and well put Greg. I think more kids here in europe associate it with Chocolate than with Jesus anymore, it’s been highjacked by commercialism. Oh well, I guess that’s the way of the world. Sometimes I feel like educating our kids is more about redressing the balance (of what the mass media’s teaching them) than actually imparting new things. Happy Easter dears x

  4. LOL!ROFL! Jesus has now attained super-hero status with His immortality! I love the way kids think and see the world - too precious! If only we could bottle it up and bring it out when our world gets a little jaded - that would be something…
